Translation features process text you type, the current recognized speech turn and text extracted from photos. Each translation turn is processed independently; prior conversation turns are not sent as context. Cloud features may process this text or microphone audio after you give permission.
Photo text recognition happens on your device. Cloud translation receives the extracted text, not the photo. You may choose to share saved images.
Your preferences, consent choices, downloaded language packs and translation history are stored on your device. Microphone recordings are not saved in translation history.
We also process installation identifiers, IP addresses, subscription information, aggregate feature and paywall interactions, usage information and technical errors to operate and protect the service. Product analytics do not include translation text, audio or language choices, and we do not retain an individual activity history. If you contact support, we receive the information you provide, such as your email address and message.
We use information to provide translation and voice features, remember preferences, manage subscriptions and usage, improve reliability, prevent abuse and respond to support requests. No Translate Live account is required. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps and websites.
With your permission, cloud translation and voice features share only the translation content needed for your request with contracted cloud processing services. You can decline or withdraw permission in Settings.
We also use external services for hosting, security, language downloads, purchases and support. App Store services handle purchases, and messages submitted through our support form are delivered to our support inbox.
On-device language features and downloads may send device, usage and diagnostic information to the operating system or language technology provider, separately from your translation content. Offline mode does not turn off these services.
Your translation history, saved images and replay audio are stored locally; we do not keep a cloud translation history. External services may retain information under their applicable policies.
Operational records and support messages may be retained for service delivery, security, troubleshooting or legal obligations. Retention varies by the information and service involved. Contact us with retention questions or deletion requests.
Data is encrypted in transit. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection.
Translate Live is a general-audience service. Parents and guardians should review its features and cloud-processing choices before allowing a child to use it, and provide any permission required by applicable law. Contact us if you have concerns about a child's information.
Information used by cloud and other network services may be processed in the United States and other countries where those services operate. Applicable safeguards and processing terms depend on the service and your location. Offline translation content stays on your device.
We may update this policy and will change the date above when we do. A policy update does not itself grant permission for cloud processing.
